Current Timeline

The current timeline dominant in Ouranos is based on the founding of the city of Calimport just over a millennium ago. Known formally as Calimport Reckoning, CR is alternatively known as Corinthian Reckoning or simply Common Reckoning. The current year is 1102.

  • ~10,000 BCR- The Old Empires of Man reach their peak. The royal families of Ibis and Mithos achieve powers rivaling the Gods themselves. Eventually, however, the two families turn on each other. The catalyst for this war is unclear, and many rumors as to what caused the war exist. What is clear is that the war lasts 1000 years, and results in the complete destruction of both empires, save the capital city of Mithos, which is reduced to less than 500 people out of what had been millions. The fate of the city of Ibis and the surrounding regions is far worse. A terrible spell was cast upon the city which tore the very souls from its citizens, blasting apart the countryside and leaving nothing but an empty wasteland that remains uninhabitable into the present day. Omnus, the original God of Ouranos, is killed in the process.
  • ~8,500 BCR- The non-human races abandon the region of the Old Empires, leaving the humans behind. For the next eight thousand years, the humans in this region live a meager existence.
  • ~8,000 BCR- the Elves are firmly settled into the Sylvan forests, which at the time reach across the Castellan sea and into the Northern Frontier. The Dwarves have settled the spine of Ouranos, their chief cities being Drunhold, Stormgald, and Westmount. Halflings and gnomes take to the seas and settle coastal the regions west of the ruined empires.
  • 4,402 BCR- The Goblinoid races pour out of the Northern Frontier, massacring millions and burning all in their path. Their king, Urug Manslayer, orders the burning of the Sylvan forrests, and sacks Westmount, killing all 12 forgefathers in a single skirmish. The Orcs are finally stopped at Stormgald, where the combined forces of the elves and dwarves were able to stop Urug’s army at the gates. Urug was killed during the battle. His legacy, the 1st Orc Purge, forged the Empire known as Khai-Uruk.
  • 2,101 BCR- The 2nd Orc Purge devastates the land. Stormgald quickly falls, and millions of acres of forrest land are reduced to charred husks. The elves retreat to behind the Spine of Ouranos, leaving the dwarves to their own devices. The orcs are finally held pushed back at Rook’s Folly, a side of the mountain range a few miles north of Drunhold. The dwarves quickly rechristen it Orc’s Folly, and to this day, the Feast of Orcsfolly is celibrated across Ouranos.
  • 303 BCR- As the number of goblinoid races begins to swell, it becomes apparent that a new purge is upon the races of Ouranos. The dwarves, distrustful of the elves, fortify Drunhold and prepare for war. Though they know full well that the coming purge will destroy their race, they refuse to back down. Too small in number to mount their own pre-emptive attack and desperate to avoid what is growing to be the largest attack yet, the elves look south to the humans. The humans had been living a meager existence for almost 10,000 years, gathering what they could from an infertile land and taking shelter in the ruins of their once-great empires, a bitter memory of what they were once capable of. In the past, the elves had contained the human race, blaming man and his hubris for the fall of the Old Empires. In their desperation, the elves formed a pact with the humans, arming them and fostering magical abilities they once supressed. They appointed Alphonse Alexander, a promising young horse rider, to lead the armies of man. The legions they raised and deployed against the goblinoid fought with terrifying determination and vigor, forging well ahead of their elven allies. They swept aside the orc purge just as it began to form and plunged into Khai-Uruk, inflicting terrific casualties on goblinoid soldier and civilian alike.
  • 293 BCR- In a single ten year campaign, Alphonse Alexander destroys the goblinoid empire and chases the remnants into the desert of the Northern Frontier. Promising to eradicate the “Goblin Menace” in a single Great Crusade and forge a new empire for mankind in a series of rousing speeches, the Legions of Man prepare to invade the deserts. But before he can lead his men into the wasteland of the Northern Frontier, he dies. Over the next decade, his generals each vie for power, and the Legions tear themselves apart. The cause of Alphonse Alexander’s death is unknown, and to this day many claim that the elves, terrified of what they’d unleashed, assassinated the great leader and pitted his generals against each other. Whatever killed him, he was the last to lead a united mankind. From 293 BCR on, man would fight amongst himself.
  • 102 BCR- A series of devastating plagues strike mankind, and it isn’t long until the Sickness is tramsmitted to the other races as well. The Sickness wipes out half of the population of Ouranos in a period of just over 100 years.
  • 92 BCR- Gnomish explorer Franco Merip Tonks Numish Treevil Volo embarks on his quest to circumnavigate the continent.
  • 90 BCR- Franco Volo reaches Cathai, a place sighted by elven fishermen, but never explored. There, he documents the native culture, and gets an audience with the emperor. He is the last outsider to be allowed on the island of Cathai outside of Nisei’s walls.
  • 89 BCR- Franco Volo’s expidition sets sail from Cathai, set to pass by the peninsula of the Old Empires. His voyage never makes it home.
  • 48 BCR- Marathon, a large city-state, declares itself sovereign over the surrounding region. Its armies forge the empire of Marathos, which, by 5 BCR, is slightly larger than it is today, controlling regions that today are part of the Corinthian Empire and the Confederated States.
  • 1 CR- The city of Calimport is founded by William Calim as a merchant port.
  • 8 CR- Cathai opens its capital city of Nisei for trade.
  • 52 CR- The Lancaster family seizes control of Marathos in the bloody Merchant Rebellion. The existing nobility (including the Lords of Marathos) are executed and new nobles are selected among the family’s supporters
  • 102- The village of Dorian is founded as a storehouse for merchants travelling by sea.
  • 128- Calimport, led by William Calim’s descendant Joseph Ratzig, expands its borders. Ratzig declares himself king of the region of Corinth, and adopts this name for his kingdom. It takes nearly 500 years for the empire to develop its current western half.
  • 503- William Longmorgh, king of the Corinthian Empire, abolishes the aristocracy after the Empire’s serfs revolt against the Lordship. Longmorgh replaces the aristocrats with Lords who rule for a five year period.
  • 520- Dorian, now a full-fledged city-state, and begins to build its own professional navy.
  • 880- A young mutinying Dorian sailor named Kitt Krachev makes landfall in a village called Poisson. Twenty-five years later, Poisson becomes the city of Kitt’s Bay, a haven for pirates and rogues.
  • 996- The Confederated States are formed with the signing of the Declaration of Confederation.
  • 1005- The Confederated States reach their current membership size of 45 states.
  • 1059- The declining empire of Marathos declares war on the Corinthian Empire, citing border disputes as casus belli. Corinthian King Tyrone Nadal leads his armies to victory after a five-year war, seizing a large portion of Marathonian territory, including several key islands just outside of Marathon.
  • 1088- King Tyrone Nadal launches a war of expansion against the city states to the east, securing a large amount of territory for his empire. His 12 year old daugher, Eris Catherine Nadal, accompanies him on campaign after successfully convincing him to bring her. King Tyrone appoints his friend and brother-in-law, Bradford Aurelius, as Eris’ personal bodyguard.
  • 1090- An attempted Corinthian invasion of Dorian fails due in large part to the inventions of Arithem Despis and the heroics of the smaller but more experienced Dorian Navy.
  • 1098- Attica, a large Corinthian city, is attacked by a large force of pirates in the middle of the night. The city guard panics, and is unable to mount an effective defense to this unprecidented attack. Eris Nadal, who was in Attica attending a women’s finishing school, takes command of what was left of the guard and mounted a counter attack. By the time dawn broke over Attica, only 15 pirates were left alive. Although she had no real authority, she ordered the pirates to be hung by the masts of their own ships, which were floated north towards Kitt’s bay.
  • 1099- The War of the Marathosian Aggression- Marathos declares war on the Confederated States. No reason is ever given for this invasion, which fails miserably. Still largely in shambles after the Lancastrian War, the Marathosian army is defeated after only a year of occupation by a guerrilla force of farmers, merchants, and townspeople.
  • 1100- Bartholemeu Daxis is crowned King of Marathos. Upon ascending the throne, he is given the nickname Daxis the Unfortunate, for his kingdom is suffering from widespread poverty and threats of revolt.
  • 1102- Present Day. An aging King Nadal names his nephew, Kyric Aurelieus, as his successor. Aurelius, a young army captain, has no political experience, but his leadership ability is uncanny, and many believe he will be a great king. His success battling orcs, barbarians, and raiders have shown that he is equally capable in battle.
